Goodwill Fort Worth Opens 25th Area Retail Store
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (June 27, 2019) – Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth, Inc. announced today that the organization will open its 25th area retail store on Friday, June 28, 2019.
The 10,604 sq. ft. retail store is located at 8502 Benbrook Highway in Benbrook, Texas and will be the first Goodwill retail store in the city. Goodwill’s existing attended donation center trailer in Benbrook will close on June 30, but donations will continue to be accepted at the new retail location. Grand opening ceremonies will kick off at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting. Shoppers can enjoy a live DJ as well as drawings and giveaways every hour-on-the-hour.
“While many traditional retailers are closing their doors, we’re proud to open our 25th area retail store,” said David Cox, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth.
According to June 21, 2019 data from Coresight Research, “US retailers have announced 6,986 store closures,” so far this year, with an estimated “12,000 by the end of 2019.”This is compared to 5,864 closures for the full year 2018. Conversely, according to GlobalData Market Sizing information, resale has grown “21 times faster than the retail apparel market over the past three years.”
“Goodwill and the thrifting model continue to attract new shoppers even in this time of decline in bricks and mortar retail. Everyone likes a treasure hunt and our stores offer the chance for fashion lovers to create their own unique outfits and home decor from a variety of donated items,” said Cox.
Like all Goodwill Fort Worth locations, revenue generated through the sale of donated goods at the Benbrook store fund job training and placement programs for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment including veterans, at-risk youth, the homeless, the formerly incarcerated and the disadvantaged. The organization also assists job seekers from the general public in obtaining employment through six area job resource centers.
