Goodwill North Central Texas to Host First Ever Texas Goodwill’s Talent Show

WHO:  Eight talent show acts from four Goodwill Industries organizations across Texas including Goodwill North Central Texas, Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries (Waco), Goodwill Industries of East Texas (Tyler) and Goodwill-West Texas (Abilene), as well as special performances from each agency; 100 Goodwill Industries staff, family and friends; as well as leadership from each of the represented Goodwill agencies.

WHAT:  Goodwill North Central Texas, Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries (Waco), Goodwill Industries of East Texas (Tyler) and Goodwill-West Texas (Abilene) will perform in the first annual “Texas Goodwill’s Talent Show.” This Texas talent show follows local competitions at each of the participating Goodwill agencies. Acts are comprised of the first and second place winners from each Goodwill location.

One of the performances during the show will be participants from Goodwill’s S.T.A.R.S. program – a unique day habilitation program for adults with significant mental disabilities. By showcasing their talents in the show, these individuals prove that you can’t hear a person’s abilities when you are only listening for their disabilities.

First ($1,000), second ($500) and third ($250) place prizes will be awarded. Acts include singers, dancers, a guitarist, a trumpeter, a poet and a comedian.

WHEN:  Friday, September 15, 2017; 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

WHERE:  Goodwill North Central Texas – S.T.A.R.S. Town Square; 4005 Campus Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76119; (817) 332-7866

WHY:  Goodwill is more than a thrift store. The largest employer of people with disabilities in the world, Goodwill believes that work has the power to transform lives by building self-confidence, independence, creativity, trust and friendships. Everyone deserves this chance.

Goodwill North Central Texas’s 23 retail locations provide revenue through the sale of donated goods to support Goodwill’s mission – job training and career services for people with disabilities, such as physical or mental disabilities and other barriers to employment including lack of education or work experience and homelessness.
