Brandy Mansell came to Goodwill in October 2020 with a goal of furthering her education to advance her career. Having entry-level job experience in various industries, Brandy had developed a passion for the healthcare field and craved the stability and consistency it offered. She applied for and was accepted into the Medical Front Office Assistant certification program at Goodwill’s North Texas Institute for Career Development.
When she began the certification program she was working as the lead receptionist for an assisted living company but worked diligently with her job placement specialist to find a better fit. Several interviews later, she was offered a position at Brookdale Senior Living as a Front Office Assistant. She quickly showed her dedication and hard work and was promoted to Activities Coordinator and Front Office Assistant, which came with a significant pay raise. The double duties, coupled with her classwork for the certification program became overwhelming, but Brandy stayed motivated and pushed through to complete the certification in January 2021.
Goodwill’s job placement specialist discussed Indeed services with Brandy, and encouraged her to utilize the resume and assessment services, as these steps would help her in finding employment specific to her certification. She completed numerous assessments that would make her more appealing to employers and worked with the placement specialist to apply for several job leads specific to her career plan. Her hard work paid off and she was offered a position as a Front Desk Coordinator with Monticello Health, making $16 per hour – a substantial pay raise.
In her new job, Brandy is able to complete tasks and develop skills that are specific to her interest areas and her earned certification, including insurance verification, patient intake processing, scheduling patient appointments, and processing medical records.
Brandy loves the work that she gets to do every day and feels as though she has finally found the career she has been working toward. She is especially thankful for Goodwill’s support, as well as the encouragement she was given to use Indeed’s services – where she ultimately found the career of her dreams. Today, Brandy is enrolled in the North Texas Institute for Career Development’s Medical Billing & Coding certification program to continue to further her career.
