In early-February, a donor at the Goodwill Hurst store returned in a panic after his wife accidentally donated a jacket with $5,000 cash in the pocket. The accidental donation had been included in a bag full of clothes donated to the nonprofit. With hundreds of donations received per day, management explained to the donor that they’d do their best to locate the missing money, but couldn’t promise it would be located.
Last week, Makayla Delapena, a softline sorter at Goodwill Hurst, was going through clothing donations and came across a jacket that matched the description from the donor. In the pocket, she found a bank envelope with the missing cash and even the withdrawal receipt. Happily, the money was returned to the donor, and Makayla was awarded by Goodwill for her honesty and integrity.
