3 Ways to Support World Autism Awareness Day

Logo_waadAs we close out the month, let’s look forward to the exciting things happening in April! A great way to kick off the month is by participating in World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd. While the diagnosis of autism is common, understanding is not. This lack of knowledge can make life even more difficult for children and adults with the disorder. Here are three ways to gain a greater understanding and make a difference:

  1. Wear Blue to Show Support:
  • Join thousands of people across the world to honor the millions of individuals and families affected by wearing blue on Sunday, April 2. Make a trip to your local Goodwill to find the right blue item to proudly show your support for Autism Speaks. Find a store close to you.
  1. Learn About Autism:
  • Our online bookstore is filled with storybooks and self-help materials to learn about autism and caring for someone with the disorder. View our picks or check out Sesame Street and Autism, a nationwide initiative targeted at communities with children ages 2 to 5, created by Sesame Workshop.
  1. Donate to S.T.A.R.S.:
  • Goodwill North Central Texas serves many individuals on the autism spectrum though our S.T.A.R.S. program. S.T.A.R.S. recreates daily living scenarios and gives participants a chance to learn real life skills to overcome their disadvantages and achieve maximum independence. Donate today to help sustain this day habilitation program that serves more than 100 individuals each day in Fort Worth and Grapevine locations.
